Dennis Coffey, former Motown Funk Brother - By 1990, I had given some Jamerson stories to
Allan Slutsky, which were included in his book about the Motown
bass player, Standing in the Shadows of Motown. At that time I
had worked at Motown on sessions for four years in Detroit and
three years in LA. In 1990 Allan was calling to see if I would
be interested in going on the road as a Funk Brother. Finally I
explained to him that due to other obligations, I could not do
it. From that point on when the Funk Brothers officially
trademarked the name Funk Brothers, I was not included. The
Funks called me after the documentary, Standing in the Shadows
of Motown, to go on the road again. At that time, I still had to
say no. The Funks are my friends and great musicians so I am
glad they finally received the recognition
