Dennis Coffey, former Motown Funk Brother - By 1990, I had given some Jamerson stories to Allan Slutsky, which were included in his book about the Motown bass player, Standing in the Shadows of Motown. At that time I had worked at Motown on sessions for four years in Detroit and three years in LA. In 1990 Allan was calling to see if I would be interested in going on the road as a Funk Brother. Finally I explained to him that due to other obligations, I could not do it. From that point on when the Funk Brothers officially trademarked the name Funk Brothers, I was not included. The Funks called me after the documentary, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, to go on the road again. At that time, I still had to say no. The Funks are my friends and great musicians so I am glad they finally received the recognition they deserved. See the following letter to me from Allan Slutsky below.

The following is a letter I received from the Temptations when I backed them up on the TV show In Concert in LA.
